Health Policy Committee

The NDDA Health Policy Committee is dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of Nigerians through the development, advocacy, and implementation of evidence-based health policies. The committee strives to address key healthcare challenges, promote health equity, and contribute to the improvement of the healthcare system in Nigeria.

  1. Committee Structure:
    • Chairperson:
      • Responsible for providing leadership to the committee.
      • Coordinates committee activities and ensures alignment with NDDA’s mission and goals.
      • Represents the Health Policy Committee within the NDDA leadership and external partnerships.
    • Vice Chairperson:
      • Assists the Chairperson in fulfilling their responsibilities.
      • Takes on leadership duties in the absence of the Chairperson.
    • Committee Members:
      • Comprise healthcare professionals with diverse expertise, including physicians, public health experts, researchers, and policy analysts.
      • Collaborate on policy development, advocacy strategies, and implementation plans.
    • Liaison with NDDA Leadership:
      • The Health Policy Committee maintains regular communication with the NDDA Executive Committee to align priorities and seek guidance on overarching organizational goals.
  2. Key Responsibilities:
    • Policy Development:
      • Conduct comprehensive assessments of healthcare challenges in Nigeria.
      • Formulate evidence-based health policy recommendations addressing key issues identified.
    • Advocacy:
      • Advocate for the adoption of NDDA-supported policies with relevant governmental bodies, policymakers, and stakeholders.
      • Develop advocacy strategies to raise awareness of critical health issues.
    • Research and Analysis:
      • Engage in research activities to support the development of informed policy recommendations.
      • Analyze existing health policies and their impact on the Nigerian population.
    • Collaboration:
      • Foster collaborations with national and international health organisations, academic institutions, and government agencies.
      • Leverage partnerships to amplify the impact of health policy initiatives.
    • Public Engagement:
      • Develop communication strategies to engage the public in health policy discussions.
      • Organize educational initiatives to increase awareness of health issues among the population.
    • Monitoring and Evaluation:
      • Establish mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of endorsed health policies.
      • Evaluate the impact of policies on healthcare outcomes and propose adjustments as needed.
    • Reporting:
      • Regularly report progress, findings, and recommendations to the NDDA Executive Committee.
      • Provide updates to NDDA members through various communication channels.
  3. Meetings and Activities:
    • Frequency:
      • Regular committee meetings to discuss ongoing initiatives, share updates, and plan future activities.
    • Workshops and Forums:
      • Conduct workshops, forums, and webinars to facilitate discussions on specific health policy topics.
    • Annual Policy Symposium:
      • Organize an annual symposium to showcase research findings, policy recommendations, and engage stakeholders in meaningful discussions.
